​In a lush, tropical jungle near a sunny, sandy beach, lived a friendly crocodile named Croc. Croc was big and green with a long, powerful tail and a smile that showed off his pearly white teeth. Unlike some crocodiles who liked to hide, Croc loved the sunshine and was always out on the beach.
​Croc had a favorite spot: a cool, shady area where the tall palm leaves met the sand. Every morning, he would relax there, watching the waves roll in.
​One day, a group of smaller animals—a tiny crab, a nervous monkey, and a quick chameleon—were trying to get to a huge, juicy patch of mangoes that had fallen from a tree. But to get to the mangoes, they had to cross a wide, shallow stream that was full of sharp, slippery stones.
​The tiny crab kept slipping on the stones. The monkey didn’t like getting his feet wet. The chameleon was worried about the water washing away his perfect green color.
​Croc watched them struggle. He knew he was the only one big enough to cross the stream easily.
​He slowly and gently walked into the water. He didn’t make a sound. When he reached the other side, he turned back to the small animals.
​”Don’t worry, little friends!” called Croc, his smile wide and friendly. “I can help you get those mangoes!”
​The little animals were nervous at first, seeing his big size and his many teeth.
​”Don’t be scared,” Croc chuckled. “I use my strength to help my friends, not to frighten them.”
​He carefully lowered his long, flat back into the stream. “Hop on! I’ll give you a ride!”
​The crab, the monkey, and the chameleon cautiously climbed onto Croc’s sturdy back. The monkey held onto Croc’s neck, the crab sat near his tail, and the chameleon blended in perfectly with Croc’s green skin.
​Croc carefully walked back across the stream. His long legs kept him steady, and his thick scales didn’t mind the slippery rocks. In no time at all, they were at the mangoes!
​The little animals thanked Croc loudly and shared the sweetest mangoes with him. Croc was happy. He learned that his size and strength, which sometimes scared others, were actually his greatest gifts when he used them for kindness and sharing. From that day on, Croc was everyone’s favorite friend and the most trusted taxi driver in the jungle!
