In the deep blue ocean, surrounded by colorful coral and swaying seaweed, lived a little pufferfish named Puffy. Puffy was very round and a bright shade of orange, with small, pointy spikes all over his body. He was very friendly and loved to swim around, watching the other sea creatures.
Puffy had a special trick: whenever he felt surprised or excited, he would puff up, filling his body with water until he was as big as a soccer ball! The other fish would giggle and say, “Wow, Puffy, you’re so round!”
One sunny morning, as Puffy was playing near a big, purple coral reef, he heard a sound he’d never heard before. It was a tiny, sad little whisper. He swam closer and saw a small, scared-looking clownfish hiding behind a rock.
”What’s wrong?” asked Puffy gently.
”My family and I got separated in the big waves,” the clownfish said sadly. “I’m all alone, and I’m scared.”
Puffy’s heart felt heavy. He wanted to help, but he couldn’t just swim the clownfish home, because he didn’t know where it was.
Suddenly, Puffy had a big idea! He swam to the top of the coral reef, took a deep breath, and puffed up as big as he could. He was now a giant, spiky, orange ball, shining brightly in the water. All the other fish and sea turtles swam over to see what was happening.
”Look!” he called out in his best, most cheerful voice. “This clownfish needs help! If you see his family, please tell them he is safe with me!”
The message traveled from one fish to another, like a ripple in the water. The little fish told the big fish, and the big fish told the sea turtles. Before long, a whole family of clownfish, all looking just like the little one, came swimming towards them. They were so happy to be reunited!
The clownfish family thanked Puffy and his friends for all their help. Puffy smiled, his body returning to its normal size. He was happy to have a special talent that could help others. He learned that day that sometimes, being a little different is exactly what makes you special, especially when you use it to help a friend in need.
