In a peaceful valley surrounded by soft green hills and tall, misty mountains, lived a very fluffy sheep named Woolly. Woolly had the softest, thickest wool in the entire flock, a gentle brown face, and kind, wide eyes. She lived on a small farm with a cozy red-roofed house.
Woolly loved to follow the little dirt path that wound up the hill, past the big pine tree. But she was a very cautious sheep. If a path was new or seemed too long, she would get nervous and usually just stay close to the house.
One sunny afternoon, a small, bright red bird landed on the fence post. “Hello, Woolly!” the bird chirped. “I just flew down from the very top of that tall, blue mountain! The view from up there is amazing! You can see the whole world!”
Woolly looked up at the towering mountains. She had always wondered what the world looked like from so high up, but the path looked very long and winding. She shook her head nervously.
”It looks too far,” she baa-ed softly. “And what if the path disappears?”
The little bird laughed kindly. “The path may look long, Woolly, but it doesn’t just disappear! It only goes one step at a time. As long as you keep taking one slow step after another, you will get there.”
Woolly thought about this. She looked down at her hooves, then back at the path. She decided to try.
She started her journey. Step, step, baa. The first few steps were easy. When the path curved around the tree, she felt a little scared because she couldn’t see what was next, but she remembered the bird’s words: one step at a time.
She kept walking, enjoying the fresh scent of the grass and the warm sun on her wool. After a long time, she realized she had climbed quite high! She reached a spot where she could see the entire farm, the cozy red house, and the winding path she had just walked.
It was the most beautiful view she had ever seen!
Woolly was overjoyed. She returned home that evening, her heart full of pride. She learned that day that even if a goal looks very big and difficult, you can reach it simply by focusing on taking one steady step after the other. Woolly, the cautious sheep, became the most adventurous sheep in the flock, simply by trusting the path.
