In the heart of a lush, green jungle filled with giant leaves and winding vines, lived a happy sloth named Sam. Sam had soft brown fur, a very sweet smile, and long arms that were perfect for hugging tree branches.

Sam was the slowest animal in the whole jungle. While the monkeys swung quickly from tree to tree and the jaguars ran fast on the ground, Sam preferred to move very, very slowly. He believed that if you move slowly, you get to see all the beautiful things that others miss.

One sunny morning, the jungle animals decided to have a “Great Forest Race.” The goal was to reach the Big Blue River.

”I’m going to win!” chattered the monkey, swinging past Sam.

“No, I’ll be there first!” roared the young jaguar, sprinting away.

Sam just smiled his slow smile and started to move. Reach, grip, pull. Reach, grip, pull. He was moving so slowly that it looked like he wasn’t moving at all.

By noon, the monkey and the jaguar were far ahead. But because they were going so fast, they didn’t notice that the path to the river was covered in slippery mud from the night’s rain. Suddenly—Splat! Slide!—the monkey slipped off a vine, and the jaguar got stuck in the deep, sticky mud. They were both safe, but they couldn’t move forward.

A few hours later, Sam slowly arrived at the muddy spot. Because he was moving so carefully and slowly, he saw exactly where the mud was deepest. He used his long arms to reach for a very strong, dry branch that the others had missed in their hurry.

He slowly crawled along the high branch, right over the mud. He even reached down to give the monkey a little boost to help him get back up.

Eventually, Sam was the first one to reach the Big Blue River. When the others finally arrived, tired and covered in mud, they found Sam happily munching on a green leaf.

”How did you get here first, Sam?” asked the tired jaguar.

Sam smiled. “Sometimes, moving slowly is the fastest way to get where you’re going,” he said gently. “It gives you time to find the best path.”

The animals realized Sam was right. From that day on, whenever they were in a hurry, they remembered Sam the Sloth and learned that being slow and careful is a very special strength.
